Guwahati is the gateway to the Northeast, and this one-day Guwahati city tour shows you the city’s story in four stops. You begin with the aerial view of the city from the hilltop Gandhi Mandap, the peak point of Guwahati City. Following a visit to Sankardev Kalakhetra, you step into the world of Srimanta Sankardeva, the saint-reformer whose music, dance, and theater still shape Assamese life and culture.
The afternoon brings you to the newly opened Swahid Smarak Khetra, a quiet and moving memorial to the martyrs of the Assam Movement, set in open parkland. Then you cross the Brahmaputra for the finale. At Aswaklanta Temple in North Guwahati, an 18th-century Vishnu shrine sits right on the riverbank, and you watch the light fade over the water as the day winds down.
Pace and effort: Easy. Most of the day is spent in a vehicle or on flat paths, with 10 to 20 minutes of walking at each stop.
Best for: First-time visitors, families, senior travelers, school and college groups, and cultural travelers on a short stopover.
Photography: Good at the memorial grounds and at the temple at sunset. It may be restricted inside some museum galleries.
Drive time: Expect about 2 to 2.5 hours of driving across the day. Weekday traffic is heavy in the afternoon, especially on the Saraighat Bridge road.
Entry fees: The museum charges a ticket fee of Rs. 20 per adult. The temple has no entry fee.

Exclusions
Take care on the hill in the rains. Sarania Hill has a history of landslides, especially during heavy rain. Check the weather and avoid the hilltop during or just after a downpour.
Wear good footwear. The hilltop and temple steps can be steep and slippery, so choose closed shoes or sandals with grip.
Dress modestly for the temple. Cover your shoulders and knees, and remove your shoes before entering.
Respect the memorials. Keep your voice low and follow the staff’s guidance at Gandhi Mandap and Swahid Smarak Khetra.
Reach the temple before dark. North Guwahati is quiet in the evening, so plan to leave by about 6:00 PM. Women travelling alone or in small groups should use a trusted driver rather than hailing a vehicle thereafter at dark.
Mind the river edge. Stay back from the bank during rains and high water, and supervise children on the ghat steps.
Carry the basics: drinking water, an umbrella, sunscreen or a cap, small cash for tickets and tips, and a power bank.
