In India, English and Hindi dominate the digital content; regional languages often get lost in translation. For almost 15 million Assamese speakers, that gap has long meant limited visibility online. But now, a quiet tech revolution is brewing in the heart of Guwahati. Aakhor AI, led by once a Rubik’s Cube champion-turned-entrepreneur Kabyanil Talukdar and his brother Indranil Talukdar, is rewriting the rules.

Let’s explore the journey and vision of Aakhor AI, the first-of-its-kind AI platform making Assamese and other regional languages accessible for digital uses.
Outline of the Story
The Need of Aakhor AI
The digital revolution has transformed content consumption, but regional languages like Assamese still face significant challenges. For years, Assamese content creators faced compatibility issues due to non-Unicode formats. Search engines struggled to read Assamese text, making online visibility a major challenge.
Aakhor AI was built to solve this problem, ensuring that Assamese content is not only search engine-friendly but also universally accessible. Founded by Kabyanil Talukdar with the help of his brother Indranil Talukdar, who is also a tech entrepreneur, the startup aims to bridge this gap by providing Unicode-based solutions for Assamese writing, making it accessible across platforms.
Early Beginnings: The Making of a Visionary
Born with an innate talent for logical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking, Kabyanil was a national-level chess player before diving into the world of coding. His journey into programming began as early as 7th standard, where he first encountered C, C++, and Java through the internet. By grades 9 and 10, he was already teaching computer science to his peers, earning the trust of his teachers.
Kabyanil is also a world-renowned speedcuber and won the 3×3 Blindfolded event at the World Rubik’s Cube Championship 2015. He also set a world record in the 2014 Asian Championship, solving a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded in just 27.63 seconds. In 11th and 12th standard, he started working with his elder brother, Indranil Talukdar , assisting with infographics, logo design, and web development using tools like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. This early exposure paved the way for his deep understanding of design, technology, and artificial intelligence.
Entrepreneurial Journey: From Invision Webtech to Aakhor AI
At just 18, Kabyanil joined his brother Indranil’s company as a co-founder of Invision Webtech, a company that professionalized website development in Assam. Without any marketing budget or funding, Invision Webtech grew through word of mouth, securing projects like News Live TV’s official website, Niyomiya Barta, Pride East Entertainments Private Limited, and many more.
However, he soon realized that service-based models have limitations, prompting a shift toward a product-based company. This thought marked the birth of Aakhor AI, focusing on AI-driven Assamese content solutions.

Aakhor AI’s Groundbreaking Technology
1. Solving the Unicode Challenge
One of Aakhor AI’s primary innovations is converting Assamese text into Unicode-supported formats. The platform ensures that Assamese content is readable across all digital platforms, making it SEO-friendly and widely accessible.
2. Advanced AI for Speech Recognition and Typing
Aakhor AI offers voice typing, spell-check, and dictionary functionalities, leveraging state-of-the-art AI models. Unlike other tools, it does not rely on pre-trained models but instead utilizes synthetic data and handcrafted datasets to improve accuracy.
3. Expanding to Other Regional Languages
Aakhor AI’s long-term vision is to scale its technology to other regional languages in Northeast India. The company is actively developing speech-to-speech translation prototypes and working on automated validation datasets.
Alongside Indranil and Kabyanil—a talented team committed to pushing Assamese AI technology forward. The team continuously conducts testing, validation, and improvements to ensure seamless cross-platform usability.
Overcoming the Challenges
1. Data Collection
Building an AI model for the Assamese language required manually curated datasets, as there were no pre-existing datasets available. Aakhor AI tackled it by handcrafting data collection with student volunteers in collaboration with ARTPARK.
2. Limited Computing Resources
Unlike big tech companies, Aakhor AI had to work with limited compute power, making AI training more time-consuming. Despite this, the team optimized resources to achieve high-efficiency results.
3. Overcoming Funding Constraints with Organic Growth
As a bootstrapped startup, Aakhor AI relied on organic growth rather than external investments. The product’s unique value proposition helped attract thousands of users, proving its demand in the market.
With the launch of Aakhor AI on January 30, 2025, the company has quickly gained momentum, boasting 1,000 paid users and 4,000 free users. Additionally, its voice typing, spell-check, and dictionary tools have amassed a staggering 25,000 users.
The Role of Family and Mentorship
Kabyanil credits his success to his brother, who has been his biggest support system. His parents, too, played a crucial role in his journey:
- Father (Hariprasad Talukdar)—A yoga instructor, painter, and educator at Lokhra Central Jail, Guwahati.
- Mother (Sudarshana Deka Talukdar)—A dedicated schoolteacher, instilling values of perseverance and education.
Additionally, Kabyanil has been inspired by the World Champion of Rubik’s Cube (2015), who demonstrated the importance of critical thinking and persistence.
Future Roadmap: Next Big Goals
1. Speech-to-Speech Translation
The company is working on a prototype for AI-powered speech-to-speech translation, aiming to revolutionize regional language communication.
2. Expanding to More Indian Languages
With a strong foothold in Assamese, Aakhor AI plans to scale its model to other Northeast Indian languages, bridging linguistic gaps across the country.
3. Becoming a Leading AI Company
The ultimate goal is to position Aakhor AI as a frontier AI company from Northeast India, specializing in regional language AI solutions.
Endnotes
Aakhor AI is not just a startup; it’s a movement to digitally empower regional languages. By leveraging cutting-edge AI, it ensures that regional language technology keeps pace with the modern digital world.
And Kabyanil’s journey is a testament to self-learning, innovation, and perseverance. As he said to young aspiring entrepreneurs,
- Don’t run after jobs—create solutions that impact people’s lives.
- Maintain a positive mindset—challenges will come, but resilience leads to success.
- Innovate fearlessly—solve real-world problems with unique approaches.
