Finally, Local Kung Fu 3 is released over 150 screens on September 5, 2024, and we are excited to watch the comeback of our favorite characters and enter a laughter heaven.

With the news of its release, are you remembering the previous two parts which have become the comfort movies over the years? Like every Local Kung Fu fan, we are wondering if the new release is going to meet the expectations of the public and perform well like its previous parts.

Local Kung Fu 3 on 5th september

It is after a long time in Assamese film Industry that the audiences were able to enjoy some raw comedy filled with satire and good dialogues. Local Kung Fu movie series by Kenny Basumatary paved the way for new age Assamese comedy along with smart and well executed action sequences.

It wasn’t expected from a low budget indie movie to impress the audience and easily become the talk of the town within few months of it’s release. It is now a cult classic and one of the most famous Assamese movies in recent years. Packed with comedy and action, the film Local Kung Fu released in 2013 provided the viewers of Assamese film a new taste.

Local kung Fu 2 released after 4 years in 2017 created history as it was for the first time the sequel of an Assamese film was made. And now we are eagerly waiting for the third part which is already creating a major buzz in the town.

Let’s understand the Plot

For those who are blindly searching for depth in the movie, the plot may appear overly simplistic and thin. Charlie, our main character, moved into his uncle’s Guwahati martial arts school in an attempt to win his love Sumi’s family over. However, one thing leads to another, and Charlie finds himself in the middle of a fight with the neighborhood bad guys.

Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare serves as the basis for Local Kung Fu 2. The story revolves around two pairs of identical twins who are split up at a young age and is set in Tezpur and Guwahati. Each duo has a martial arts expert. This pair is running from criminals in Guwahati and makes their way to Tezpur, where the other two reside.

What makes it worth watching?

Being able to relate to the locals makes the humor in these films really entertaining. Assamese combined with English and Hindi vocabulary, the characters’ speech sounds like that of young people in the state. Certain characters evoke memories of our own drunk friends, eccentric family members, or just funny situations we come across on a daily basis.

Due to the humor’s everlasting appeal, Assamese viewers find comfort in Local Kung Fu and its follow-up. These films have a personal feel to them. Movie punchlines entered the common language and were even printed on t-shirts in the local area. The sequel was authentic and entertaining much like the original movie.

A vibrant portrayal of modern Assamese society replaces the conventional depictions in this action-comedy sequel, which is more than just an adaptation of the Comedy of Errors.

A new wave

Martial arts comedy is the core of both Local Kung Fu 2 and its predecessor. Through satire and comedy, the film exposes the frauds who prey on humanity and their dishonest methods of robbing people. It not only impresses the audience with its comic sequences but also breaks stereotypes without making it a focal point.

The movie carefully addresses some issues like homophobia, gender equality and discrimination all together with a laugh riot. With a budget of less than 1 lakhs for the first part and 30 lakhs for its sequel, Local Kung Fu series have made quite a good collection and long lasting impression in audience’s heart.

Director’s vision

Kenny Basumatary proves that fancy budgets and digital trickery is not necessary to pull off kick-ass action sequences. He has himself acted and written the screenplay of the movies. He says he wanted to make a movie filled with entertainment with a touch of good humor and action and didn’t really care about making an influential point.

When asked about including a gay character or breaking stereotypes Kenny said “The main objective of the movie is to be as funny as possible. But I tried to sneak in my point of view without making it obvious.” He started it as a fun project and decided to proceed with the other sequels seeing the love of the audience.

From a critics point of view

Though the last two film series were jam-packed with humor and action, there were some things that, in my opinion, they overlooked. If we must compare the two, the first is unquestionably superior in terms of humor and execution, but it does not diminish the quality of the second.

It only moves a little more slowly because the director concentrated more on the plot in the follow-up, but it’s still worth seeing. The cinematography, which lacks the beautiful shots that are typically the high point of independent films, is another mistake.

The wide angle and cinematic vision of the surroundings were overlooked by the director, who was more concerned with the live and direct scenes. Despite these little errors, both films are highly enjoyable to watch.

What to expect from local kung Fu 3 ?

For the third part of the “Local Kung Fu 3” series, Kenny Basumatary and his crew are back on television to entertain the crowds. The trailer and poster for the much awaited movie are already the talk of the town, even before its September 5 theatrical debut.

The best part is that Local Kung Fu 3 features the return of the much-loved characters from Local Kung Fu 1: Bonzo, Dulu, Tansen, Montu da, and Charlie. Seems like another wave of laughter and pure entertainment for the people of Assam. Bibhuti Bhushan Hazarika, who played the main villain in Local Kung Fu 2, is now appearing in Local Kung Fu 3 as the perfect teacher.

In the upcoming part, we will also see a special teacher-student relationship. It’s interesting that the release coincides with Teachers’ Day on 5th September. It is a movie for all ages, from little ones to elderly folks, everyone would enjoy the humor of Local Kung Fu 3.

Overall it is going to be a rollercoaster of emotions with a storyline like it’s sequel and hilarious characters like the first part. Local Kung Fu 3 can be expected to bring a fresh dose of entertainment along with it’s old style and satire.

With full of trust and love for the makers, we are eagerly waiting to feel the local kung fu vibe again. Let’s see whether they can meet the expectations and how it is going to perform on box office.
