Assam is rich in cultural wealth. The deeper ends of these folklores dive into a demonic world of spirits. Let's dive into a world of evil supernatural spirits with Assamese mystical creatures.

Bordoisila, the storm Goddess, is married to the God of thunder and lightning. Legend has it that she visits her natal place during the Assamese new year, but returns upset and throws tantrums resulting in thunderstorms.

An aqueous demonic spirit, it lives in water bodies and terrorizes fishermen at night.  Stories say that it can be controlled by acquiring the pouch that it carries, as its soul lies in it. Baak can kill or possess victims and continue to live in disguise.

Kon Bhoot is said to be the King of ghosts. It is a ghost that can harm and kill many people at once. This dangerous creature is believed to have three legs, with no neck and an eye in its chest.

An extremely dangerous and feared ghost, Ghorapak is half horse half human. It appear in swamps and near riverbanks in deep forests feeding on fish and hence is spotted by fishermen. It can take complete human form to take control of the human mind and body.

A traditional holy spirit, Burha Dangoriya means old man or great man from the Dangoriya community, refers to the protector of the community place of worship, Namghars. Dressed in all white and riding a white horse, the spirit is said to be scared.

A demon that sustains on the blood of humans. It is destructive and dangerous and can physically torture and mutilate humans for its own pleasure. It is believed to cause harm to humans by possessing the victims after luring them to death.

 A demonic witch, Jokini is said to appear during monsoons when she gets nude and climbs trees to mock the rain gods, explaining why lightning strikes trees. Jokini is said to lure pregnant ladies to steal their babies and even lure men to murder them.
