Presenting Bokshi - a suspenseful fantasy horror for all the horror movie fans by the Assamese filmmaker, Bhargav Saikia.

If you're also a fan of dramatic horror movies that come with the elements of suspense and scary folklore rather than jump scares, then this movie is just for you.

It is a directorial debut of Assam-born Bhargav Saikia, who has always been a horror enthusiast. He has earlier directed a horror short named ‘Awakenings' in 2015 and a fantasy short, ‘The Black Cat,' in 2017.

The story of Bokshi (witch in Nepali) revolves around a disturbed teenager who is tested while on a high school field trip to a little-known ancient site. A long-forgotten myth appears, making her face her deepest fears.

The official teaser of the movie was out this January, and its international release is set to be on 31 January 2025. The teaser has created quite a buzz after the renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap shared it on his Instagram handle.

The big news is that it has been selected to world premiere in the Harbour section of the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in 2025.

With its astonishing visuals, hints of occult and witchcraft, a strong female lead, and a mysterious forest, Bokshi has pleased its audience, and some are comparing it with popular A24 horror movies.

The film is written by Harsh Vaibhav, directed and produced by Bhargav Saikia under the production house of Lorien Motion Pictures, and includes a promising cast like Prasanna Bisht, Mansi Multani, Kaushik Bharadwaj, and others.

The idea of the movie traces back to the boarding school days of Bhargav in Assam, when he was sent on excursions and trips to parts of the Northeast. The mystical forest of Sikkim seemed like the perfect place to display this story.

Bhargav Saikia shares his gratitude, saying, "The selection of a northeast-set genre film like ‘Bokshi' is testament to the fact that our treasure trove of unique stories is waiting to be discovered globally."

It is indeed an inspiring journey for all the ambitious filmmakers of Assam to see the recognition for such creativity. We hope the movie releases soon and proves to be as amazing as the preview suggests.
